TBM 850 For Sale
The TBM 850 is a single engine pressurised turboprop manufactured by Socata (now Daher) in Tarbes, France. Introduced in 2006 as the successor to the TBM 700, the TBM 850 features a significantly more powerful engine that increased cruise speed and climb performance, making it one of the fastest certified single engine turboprops available at the time of its introduction.
Powered by a single Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6A-66D engine producing 850 shaft horsepower, the TBM 850 cruises at approximately 320 knots with a range of 1,520 nautical miles. The pressurised cabin seats four to six passengers in a club seating configuration. The aircraft retains the same airframe as the TBM 700 but delivers noticeably improved performance in all phases of flight, particularly during climb and at high altitude cruise.
Performance and Market Position
The TBM 850's cruise speed of 320 knots approaches that of many light jets while operating on a fraction of the fuel. Fuel consumption of approximately 55 gallons per hour compares favourably with light twin jets burning 120 to 160 gallons per hour. The aircraft can operate from runways as short as 2,380 feet and climb directly to flight level 310, reaching cruise altitude in under 20 minutes.
The TBM 850 was succeeded by the TBM 900 in 2014, which added an autothrottle and further aerodynamic refinements. The TBM family competes with the Pilatus PC-12, which offers a larger cabin but lower cruise speed, and the Piper Meridian, which is slower and less powerful but has a lower acquisition cost.
