Piper Meridian For Sale
The Piper PA-46-500TP Meridian is a single engine pressurised turboprop that entered service in 2000. Built on the proven Piper Malibu airframe, the Meridian replaced the piston engine with a Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6A-42A turboprop, transforming the aircraft's reliability, performance, and operational flexibility. The type was renamed the Piper M500 in 2015, and the current production M500 variant features Garmin G1000 NXi avionics.
Powered by a single Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6A-42A engine producing 500 shaft horsepower, the Meridian cruises at approximately 260 knots with a range of 1,000 nautical miles. The pressurised cabin seats four to five passengers in a comfortable configuration with leather seating, air conditioning, and a baggage area. The aircraft is certified for single pilot operation and instrument flight.
Design and Heritage
The Meridian shares its basic airframe with the piston powered Piper Malibu and Mirage, but the turboprop conversion adds significant capability. The PT6A engine provides exceptional reliability compared to piston powerplants, with longer time between overhauls and smoother operation at altitude. The pressurisation system allows flight up to 30,000 feet, above most weather, while the known icing certification enables safe operations in a wider range of conditions.
The Meridian competes with the TBM 700 and Pilatus PC-12 in the single engine turboprop category. While slower than the TBM and smaller than the PC-12, the Meridian offers the lowest acquisition cost of the three, making it an accessible entry point into turboprop ownership.
